Fitness App

app design, prototyping, smart animations
Project Overview
This project was initiated as a means to try my hand at the then-newly launched “Smart Animate” feature of Figma. The present-day design market is saturated with hundreds of fitness and health-related apps. Developing an original piece of work that combined the market's lucrative features felt like a suitable stepping stone to test my innovation and design thinking in the practical domain.
My Contributions
Designed the complete UI of the app and integrated smart animations and prototyping. Conducted user interviews to come up with new features.

What is lacking in current fitness apps and what are users' goals for using them?
Research PROCESS
User Interviews
In order to gain a clear understanding of what was missing out there and what exactly was it the users wanted, I interviewed 4 people and identified the primary target audience to be:
  • College-going young adults (ages 16 to 21) obsessed with having the perfect body and a muscular build.
  • Early working professionals from the ages of 22 to 30 who want to focus on leading a healthier lifestyle and becoming fit.
Research Insights
Based on the user interviews, I found 3 major insights about what was lacking in this area.
1. Lack of motivation to show up everyday
Remaining consistent in working out everyday is difficult, especially when there is no external stimulant that pushes you. All 4 people agreed to having tried fitness apps before but failing to use them everyday.
2. Difficulty in finishing workout videos.
A lot of times users would skip exercises in the middle of a workout video or would not be able to finish it if they couldn't keep up with its pace. This would lead to inaccurate stats like calorie burns which would demotivate users.
3. Need for tracking other forms of fitness.
Most fitness apps only calculate statistics for the completed exercises that are provided on the app. This makes it difficult for users that do other forms of exercises to track their overall fitness stats.

Turning Insights Into Design Ideas
From the above insights, I implemented 3 features to tackle users' problems.
1. Providing incentive through a rewards system.
Encouraging people to achieve their fitness goals by rewarding them with coins after every workout. These coins can be redeemed for perks like discount vouchers.
2. Introducing customizable workouts.
Allowing the user to personalize their workouts by selecting which exercises they want to include from a given list. They can also choose how many reps and sets (or time duration) of a particular exercise they wish to do.
3. Tracking sports and other fitness activities.
Giving an option to users to track their sports activities and other exercises in the app. They can track these activities in real time by setting a timer or stopwatch within the app itself.
